Roland Z. Gerencer, MD , a board-certified Otolaryngologist, believes in providing timely and accurate diagnosis of your nasal, sinus, or throat problem to then give you the full range of medical and surgical treatment options. Since the majority of conditions treated by Dr. Gerencer reflect chronic ailments, he emphasizes patient-centered and compassionalte physician-patient relationships.
From allergies and sinus infections to extensive head and neck cancer operations, Dr. Gerencer strives to provide the most up-to-date quality care. He is the only Fellowship-trained sinus surgeon in the state of New Mexico, and has the most experience with revision sinus surgery. Dr. Gerencer was one of the first doctors in the nation to adopt the Balloon Sinuplasty procedure in 2006.
Dr. Gerencer received his Doctor of Medicine degree cum laude and completed his Otolaryngology Residency at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Canada. He then went on to complete a Fellowship in Advanced Rhinology at Rush University in Chicago, followed by a Preceptorship in Rhinology and Endoscopic Skull Base Surgery in Graz, Austria. Dr. Gerencer recently joined Breathe America and has been in practice in New Mexico since 1999.
Dr. Gerencer has remained at the forefront of minimally invasive surgical techniques for sinus surgery, having introduced the Balloon Sinuplasty procedure to New Mexico in 2005 and the FinESSE procedure in 2007. He is a respected member of numerous professional organizations and has publications in peer-reviewed journals, including the largest single-institution review of MRSA sinusitis in the country. Dr. Gerencer has been voted a member of “America’s Top Physicians” for Otolaryngology on several occasions. Outside of medicine, Dr. Gerencer’s interests vary from fly fishing and alpine mountaineering to Classical piano and photography.
